The Lab Presents Our Research at ESA in Long Beach

From left: Amy Patterson, John Benning, Topher Weiss-Lehman, Alice Stears, Qingyu Gan, and Sammy Veauthier outside the convention center for ESA 2024 in Long Beach.

Almost all of our lab attended the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America meeting in Long Beach this August to present our research projects (PhD student Spencer Holtz opted to attend the Evolution meeting in Montreal instead). Amy, John, Alice, and Topher all gave oral presentations and Qingyu and Sammy presented posters. Extra Kudos to Qingyu and Sammy for presenting at their very first ESA meetings! They both did great jobs and it was really fun to get some feedback on the research. Qingyu presented some preliminary results from our range limit project and Sammy presented our results on the effect of assisted migration on population size and extinction risk of range shifting populations. It was fun to catch up with old friends and make new connections and everyone’s excited for next year!

Also, special shout out to Amy who worked with her colleagues from the Modelscapes project to give a workshop on Sparse Modeling for Ecology. They did a great job, got some really positive feedback, and are now working to update the workshop and make it available for other Modelscapes folks to offer it at a variety of conferences soon.
